What is an Employment pass and what are its requirements?

It is a work permit for company owners and employees. It enables them to work in Singapore. However, not everyone gets it.

  • It is awarded only if,
  • The applicant’s salary is more than S$3,000, and
  • The applicant is a degree holder from a reputable university.
  • It is valid for 1 to 2 years and it is renewable.
  • Employment pass holders can apply for permanent residency in due course.

What is an Entrepreneur Pass (EntrePass) and what are its requirements?

  • It is issued to owners of newly incorporated (or to be incorporated) companies who are interested in relocating to Singapore.
  • It is valid for a year and is renewable for as long as the company is active.
  • EntrePass holder can apply for permanent residency in due course.

What is a S Pass and what are its requirements?

  • This work permit is for mid-skilled workers.
  • There is a quota system for this pass. A technical diploma from a reputed university gives the applicant an edge.
  • It is valid for 1 – 2 years and it is renewable.
  • S pass holders with a stable job history can apply for a permanent residency after 4 – 5 years.

What is a Dependent’s Pass and what are its requirements?

  • It is a relocation visa for the family members of an Employment Pass, EntrePass, PEP, or S pass holders with a fixed monthly salary above S$4,000.
  • Spouses and children (below 21 years of age) of the pass holder can take benefit of this pass.
  • A Dependent’s Pass holder and Employment Pass holder together can apply for permanent residence. If the Employment Pass holder’s application is approved then, within no time Dependent’s Pass holder’s application also gets approved.

What is a Miscellaneous Work Pass and who needs it?

  • Miscellaneous Work Pass is a work permit granted to foreigners working in Singapore on short-term jobs.
  • Eligible individuals are,
  • Foreigners who are active in the organization or conduct of any seminar, workshop, conference, gathering or talk concerning any race or community, religion, or political end; or
  • Reporter or an accompanying crew member or foreign journalists not sponsored by any Singapore Government agency; or
  • Foreign religious workers giving talk on any religion.
  • Miscellaneous work pass holders are not eligible for applying for permanent residence in Singapore.
